The Franklin Pierce University Board of Trustees announces the appointment of new member Scott Hallenbeck ’89.
“On behalf of the entire University, I am pleased to welcome Mr. Hallenbeck to the University’s Board of Trustees,” said President Kim Mooney ’83. “The breadth and depth of his for-profit and non-profit management experience at both the national and international levels promise to enrich our University, guiding us towards a future where both our academic and athletic programs excel.”
Since 2005, Scott Hallenbeck has served as the CEO and Executive Director of USA Football, guiding its non-profit mission to lead, strengthen and grow the sport through premier educational, development, and competitive programs for American football, including tackle and flag football. His leadership has been pivotal in establishing the sport’s governing body as the global leader in youth football coaching education, certifying more than 1.1 million coaches in 50 states and numerous foreign countries across six continents. Hallenbeck initiated the Heads Up Football program in 2012, enhancing the game’s safety and education standards. Under Hallenbeck’s guidance, the positive cultural change created by Heads Up Football was advanced by the launch of USA Football’s Football Development Model (FDM) in 2021. Developed in partnership with medical, child development, long-term athlete development and football subject matter experts, the FDM focuses on progressive skill instruction that teaches young athletes age-appropriate skills and meets them at their current stage of development.
Hallenbeck has also been instrumental in forging significant partnerships with numerous organizations, including the NCAA and the NFL. Additionally, he plays a vital role in international football, serving as vice president for the International Federation of American Football, the international governing body for the sport of American football that is responsible for all regulatory, competition, performance and development aspects of the game on a global level. Hallenbeck graduated from Franklin Pierce in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication and is married to fellow Franklin Pierce alumna Tara (Hurley) Hallenbeck ’89.
“Scott’s rich experience in the sports world opens up exciting opportunities to enhance the strength and reputation of our athletic programs,” shared Board Chair Steve Duprey. “I look forward to him playing a crucial role in our long-term strategic planning efforts as we work together to ensure that Franklin Pierce University continues to provide a dynamic and holistic educational experience for all of our students.”
